Mocs Drop Saturday Match to UNCG

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to UNCG at the UTC Tennis Center today.  The Mocs fall to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in Southern Conference action, while the Spartans improved to 9-10 and 3-3 in league duals. 

Chattanooga started off in impressive fashion by winning the opening doubles point.  Seniors Caroline Hall and Annie Tarwater improved to 3-0 at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 win over Sophia Adams and Eugenia Camacho. 

UNCG took the No. 1 match, but sophomore Bogdana Zaporozhets and freshman Polina Goloputova clinched the team win with a 6-3 victory over Emily Ory and Brianna Gomez at No. 2.  Zaporozhets and Goloputova are also 3-0 as a doubles tandem in the spring. 

Singles play did not fare well for the Mocs with UNCG taking all six matches.  There were some close battles with three matches going three sets.  Sophomore Emma Van Hee also lost in two at No. 5, but both of those frames went to tiebreakers. 

Tomorrow's match against Furman has been moved due to the possibility of inclement weather in the Chattanooga area.  First serve against the Paladins is now 9:30 a.m. (E.D.T.) at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at the McCallie School.  A link for live scoring is available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
