Mocs Set GPA Record for Second Straight Term

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Department capped off an outstanding spring semester in the classroom with a program record 3.178 overall student-athlete grade-point-average.  The Mocs best their GPA mark for the second semester in a row, topping last fall's 3.137.

"There are a lot of accomplishments to cheer about right now involving Chattanooga Athletics," stated UTC Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Mark Wharton.  "Our softball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament, we just had our largest graduating class of student-athletes and now we get to celebrate another record-breaking term in the classroom."

Chattanooga is over a 3.0 as a department for the 10th time in the last 11 semesters.  Student-athletes also set new records with 55% on the Dean's List (3.2 GPA) and 68% on the A.D. Honor Roll (3.0 GPA).  The Mocs tied the record with 46 4.0s and set a new mark with 17% of all student-athletes posting a perfect score GPA.

"I commend the efforts of everyone in our Student-Athlete Academic Enhancement Center, under the Direction of Dr. Emily Blackman," added Wharton.  "They continue to provide outstanding support for all of our student-athletes, who are consistently among the top performers among all students at our University.

"Our coaches also do an outstanding job of setting the tone for academic success.  They make it an important part of our culture, while recruiting and developing the type of student-athletes who can succeed in the classroom and in competition."

The men's cross country team led the way with a 3.70 GPA.  It is the 13th-straight term with at least a 3.5 for the runners.  Football posted a program-record 2.79 team GPA, while the SoCon Champion softball team set a team mark with 21 on the A.D. Honor Roll and six 4.0s.

Men's basketball's 2.89 team GPA was its second highest on record, trailing only the 2.97 set in the fall semester, while tying program records with five on the Dean's List and seven on the A.D. Honor Roll.  All seven members of the women's golf team made the A.D. Honor Roll, while volleyball's 3.6 was just shy of its program record 3.61 set in the fall.  The SoCon Regular Season co-Champion wrestling team hit the 3.0 mark for the second semester in a row with a 3.1.
