The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team scored a 4-3 road win at Austin Peay today. Freshman
Callie Billman cliched the match with a win at No. 6 singles, upping the Mocs' record to 2-0 on the year.
"It was a great win," stated UTC head coach
Chad Camper. "We only played on four courts and every shot and every point was crucial. We were down in doubles and came back to win, and that was huge for momentum.
"It was really good to get a win over such a good team."
Sophomore
Jessie Young and junior
Bogdana Zaporozhets opened with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Austin Peay responded with a win at No. 3 and had the lead in the top spot.
However, junior
Emma Van Hee and sophomore Caroline Gibbons battle back to take the doubles point in a tiebreaker [7-6 (5)]. That gave the Mocs the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Governors went up 2-1 with singles wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Van Hee was able to even the score with her point at No. 4. As the last two matches were getting started, APSU grabbed a 3-2 advantage with a win at No. 1.
Sophomore
Lilly Holmes tied it with a straight-sets victory at No. 5, and Billiman followed with the clinching point.
Up next for the Mocs is a visit from Belmont on Jan. 31. That match is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Baylor School.
