For the third semester in a row, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Department is celebrating a record performance in the classroom by its student-athletes. The Mocs set a program high with a 3.197 overall grade-point-average, eclipsing the 3.178 set last spring.Â
"I continue to be amazed by how the success of our student-athletes in the classroom grows nearly every semester," stated UTC Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics
Mark Wharton. "Our coaches set the tone with the caliber of individuals they recruit, and our entire campus community works hard to make sure all of our students are successful."
Chattanooga is over a 3.0 as a department for the 11th time in the last 12 semesters. Student-athletes also set a new record with 169 on the Dean's List and tied a mark with 46 earning a 4.0 GPA.Â
"The job done by our Student-Athlete Academic Enhancement Center, under the Direction of
Dr. Emily Blackman, is unbelievable" added Wharton. "Their support for our student-athletes is the driving force for this continue success."
Women's golf led the way with a 3.82 overall GPA. It is the fifth time in the last 10 years head coach
Colette Murray's squad has posted the highest team GPA at UTC.Â
The men's basketball team cracked the 3.0 barrier for the first time in program history with a 3.17 GPA. This gave UTC a school record 13 teams with a 3.0 or higher. Softball (3.59) and football (2.83) also set program marks in the fall.
Women's cross country runner Makenzie Jones, and football's Marshall Cooper, Telvin Jones and Cole Strange all earned 4.0 GPAs while also grabbing All-Southern Conference honors in their respective sports.
