Postgame Quotes

Katie Burrows, Head Coach
On the second quarter struggles.
"We were just settling. That was their game plan. They don't play man-to-man. They zone up and take their chances that people aren't going to shoot the ball well. And coming into the game we weren't shooting the ball well. Why would you guard us out there? They jumped out in the passing lanes and we just moved further and further out, or we turned the ball over, or we tried to force something. It's a simple game when they [the other team] run a zone. The key is to get the ball inside the zone, whether that be hitting the high post, or the short corner, dribble drive and attack. It's very simple, but we don't do that and it's frustrating that we settle. I can't get over the fact that we turn the ball over as much as anyone. It's just so frustrating being this careless. It's clear. We're lucky to win the other night with that many turnovers. We didn't have that same vibe today."

On the team's connection and if there's a sole leader.
"As of now, no. Could there be, yes. It just hasn't shown yet. I think it's possible. They have to step outside of themselves. I tell them that they are way too nice to each other. I remember opportunities back when I was playing, you had to flat out tell your teammates that some things are just unacceptable. We can't be a team and we can't function as a team if we're all about ourselves. I know they are capable of so much more and I know that because I have seen it. I saw it leading up to this and for whatever reason, we're just not connected. We just can't find that connection. They have to make up their minds if they want to do it because the talent is on this roster, the mentality just isn't there yet."
Â
On moving forward.
"They're going to make mistakes and I always remind them that. I always say that if you go out there trying not to make mistakes, you're going to make more mistakes. You're timid, all tight, and you're definitely going to make mistakes you're back on your heels, you're trying so hard to make a play. Please me by not turning the ball over. Let's start with that, it's a simple task. Just making the sure pass. We talk about what that sure pass is and we're not making it. We're allowing the defenders to force us out further and further where we're not in scoring position. We have a lot to clean up. We don't really have any time to focus on us with another opponent coming up. I think tomorrow we're just going to worry about us and forget about Georgia Southern and hopefully we can go out and play well Sunday."
