Mocs Fighting for SoCon Title Saturday

UTC will host ETSU in the season-finale and a shot at a 22nd SoCon regular season title.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- It will be an exciting day in the Roundhouse Saturday afternoon with the Mocs fighting for a Southern Conference championship. Chattanooga will host ETSU in the final game of the regular season and a win will give the Mocs at least a share of the title. UTC is in a tie with UNCG and Samford for the top spot as each close out the season Saturday.

All three teams are 9-4 overall. Samford holds the tie break should they finish tied with either or both teams and UTC would be the second seed. However, a Samford loss and a win for UTC and UNCG will give the Mocs the No. 1 seed due to the tie break rules set in place. The bracket will be released immediately following all competitions Saturday.

Since beginning play in the Southern Conference in the 1983-84 season, Chattanooga has claimed 21 of 37 regular season titles and won 13 of those outright.

Lakelyn Bouldin is this year's recipient of the Scrappy Moore Award given to a student-athlete at the Hall of Fame banquet. She will be recognized prior to the game for this honor.

If there is a 3-way tie at 10-4 with UNCG, Samford, and Chattanooga:
  • Samford will be the #1 seed (3-1 vs. UNCG, UTC)
  • Chattanooga will be the #2 seed (2-2 UNCG, SAM)
  • UNCG will be the #3 seed (1-3 vs. SAM, UTC)

If UNCG is 10-4 and there is a 3-way tie at 9-5 with Samford, Chattanooga and Wofford:

  • Samford will be the #3 seed (2-2 vs. UTC, WOF)
  • Wofford will be the #4 seed (1-3 vs. SAM, UTC)

If UTC is 10-4 and there is a 3-way tie at 9-5 with UNCG, Samford and Wofford:
  • All 3 teams are 2-2 against each other so…
  • Against Chattanooga - Samford is 1-1, UNCG is 1-1 and Wofford is 0-2 (thus removed from pod)
  • Samford has sweep over UNCG, so…
  • Samford will be the #2 seed, UNCG will be the #3 seed and Wofford will be the #4 seed.

If Samford is 10-4 and there is a 3-way tie at 9-5 with UNCG, Chattanooga and Wofford:
  • Chattanooga will be #2 seed (3-1 vs. UNCG, WOF)
  • UNCG will be the #3 seed (2-2 vs. UTC, WOF)
  • Wofford will be the #4 seed (1-3 vs. UNCG, UTC)

If Samford, UNCG, Chattanooga and Wofford are all 9-5:
  • Samford and Chattanooga are 4-2 against the pod, while UNCG and Samford are 2-4.
  • Chattanooga will be #1 seed (2-0 vs. FUR)
  • Samford will be the #2 seed (0-2 vs. FUR)
  • UNCG will be the #3 seed
  • Wofford will be the #4 seed

If ETSU and Mercer tie at 5-9 or 4-10, ETSU wins the tiebreaker and gets the higher seed, having swept Mercer.
