SPARTANBURG---Chattanooga Mocs graduate student
Kirsty Beckwith is one of 10 Southern Conference student-athletes awarded postgraduate scholarships the league announced Thursday afternoon. She earned the Insurance Office of America Scholarship.
Â
Beckwith just finished her third year in the Scenic City transferring from St. John's in 2017. After a redshirt year, she competed her final two seasons of eligibility completing her Bachelor's in Psychology in May 2019 before beginning work on an MBA during the 2020 campaign.
Â
"I would like to express my thanks to the Southern Conference for recognizing my academic and athletic successes and honoring me with the SoCon Graduate Scholarship Award," Beckwith began. "As an international student, I am not eligible to apply for student loans. The SoCon Scholarship will aid me in completing my MBA degree without placing an enormous financial burden on my Mother."
Â
The native of Leeds, England, is a 3-time Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar with a likely fourth nod coming in the summer. She was All-Big EAST prior to her move to Chattanooga with one win, six top 5s and nine top 10s over her collegiate career.
Â
"We are happy that Kirsty was able to get this scholarship," Coach
Colette Murray shared. "It shows her hard work in the classroom is paying off. It's great when your players receive such accolades.
Â
"It's proof we are doing the right things."
Â
She was graduated magna cum laude from Chattanooga with a 3.78 cumulative GPA. She's continued her stellar academic work with a 4.0 beginning her MBA while competing for the Mocs. Along with a regular role in the starting lineup, Beckwith volunteered with Swing for Hope each year in Chattanooga; an event benefitting the Walter Boehm Birth Defect Center in Chattanooga.
Â
"I am eager to continue my MBA degree and further my knowledge of pivotal business concepts," she continued. "The degree is proving to give me invaluable experience and further developing my skill-set to help me achieve my personal goals and aspirations of becoming a successful leader/HR leader within a top American company.
Â
"It is a special feeling to have my successes recognized by the SoCon. I am proud of myself for everything I have achieved thus far and cannot wait to see what the future holds. Go Mocs!"
Â
The recipients are nominated by their schools and selected by the Southern Conference Graduate Scholar Committee. The student-athletes are evaluated on academics, athletics and community service. Joining Beckwith are fellow Moc Lakelyn Bouldin, Margaret Johnston (Samford), Nicole Grupp (ETSU), William Stout (Wofford), Jack Raines (Mercer), Samantha Franklin (VMI), Danielle Vines (Furman), Emily Zipay (Western Carolina) and Alexis Pitchford (UNC Greensboro).
Â
Beckwith is the second Mocs women's golfer to attain a SoCon postgraduate scholarship. Former SoCon Champion
Megan Woods claimed one of the 10 in 2018.
