Women’s Golf Signs 4 for 2020-21

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs are looking forward to the 2020-21 season. Coach Colette Murray announced the addition of four to the roster Wednesday. She spent time on the "Mocs on the Mic" Podcast with Chris Goforth as well as here in written form to discuss all things Mocs women's golf.

We'll focus on the recruiting angle for the purposes of this story, but you can take a listen to this week's Mocs on the Mic here. Murray and volunteer assistant, former Mocs all-conference performer and 2019 Southern Conference Champion Monica San Juan, put together arguably the deepest class of new student-athletes since the program's first season in 2007-08.

Four internationals enter, three from new countries – Serbia, Ireland and the Netherlands – and one that hails from a nation that's been very good to the program over the years, Spain.

Beatriz Barrios, Fr. | Seville, Spain (Centro Educativo La Preu)

European Golf Ranking: 259
7th on the Spanish Girls Order of Merit
Helped lead Andalusia to Spanish Team Championships while also training with national squad

Murray's view: "Beatriz is a delightful young lady. Monica and I could not be any happier that she chose Chattanooga to continue her golf and education. We are very excited about where her game can go and where Beatriz can help take the program"

Jefimija Dordevic, Fr. | Belgrade, Serbia (Chartwell International)

4-time winner on Serbian Amateur Tour
No. 1 on Serbia's U18 Order of Merit & National Team member
12 Top 10's in WAGR (World Amateur Golf Rankings) events

Murray's view: "Jefimija, we believe is a steal. She has proven herself to be a very good player in Europe, and we are so thrilled that she decided that Chattanooga was where she wanted to continue her golfing career and education."

Rachel Thompson, RSo. | Cork, Ireland (U. of Stirling)

2019 Connacht Women's Open Champion
Member of Irish National Team on the both the girls and women's levels
2017 Irish Women's Stroke Play U18 Champion

Murray's view: "We are very excited about Rachel joining us. She chose us over some top schools and that means a lot. We believe Rachel is the kind of player who can add tremendous depth both on and off the course for our team and our culture. Her resume speaks for itself. Rachel has clear-cut goals that we believe can enhance our team and our program in many ways."

Daphne van Son, Fr. | Vlijmen, The Netherlands (Rodenborch)

Represented the Dutch National Team on the girls and women's levels
2019 Berlin Junior Internationals Champion
Top 5 at 2019 Dutch Ladies Amateur

San Juan's view: "Daphne has been part of the Dutch national team for the past seven years bringing a lot of team and international experience. Her English is very good which will help her adapt to college life much quicker. Her competitiveness, desire to practice hard and develop, excitement to be part of our team and work with Colette and I are factors that will help her fit right in and be a contributor from the beginning."

It's a deep class joining a diverse returning group. That quartet is led by Esme Hamilton who tied the school scoring record with her strong finish at the Princess Anne Invitational in the Fall. Fellow juniors Michaela Kulhankova and Dorota Zalewska have two solid years of experience in the program. Hannah Holland comes off a redshirt year giving the ledger its deepest, most competitive group in program history.
