CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team begins play Monday at the Hoover Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day, 54-hole event is played at Hoover Country Club, a par 72 layout playing at nearly 6,200 yards.
Coach
Colette Murray has a lot of new faces to choose from on this year's squad. Sophomores
Esme Hamilton and
Dorota Zalewska are back for their third years in the Scenic City, while a quartet of Europeans join them. Spaniard
Beatriz Barrios follows in the footsteps of recent alums
Monica San Juan '19, assistant coach and 2019 Southern Conference Champion, and
Cristina Perez '18 who also hail from the Iberian peninsula.
Three new countries are represented among the other three newcomers. Serbia's Jefimija Dorfevic, Ireland's
Rachel Thompson and The Netherlands' Daphne Van Son are all competing for one of the five starting lineup positions.
This is the Mocs first team event in the Birmingham area since winning the Samford Women's Intercollegiate in 2008 in nearby Oneonta. It was the fourth of four wins in that inaugural campaign with all-time wins leader Emma de Groot '11 claiming the first of back-to-back wins as a freshman. Emily McLennan '16 was the last Chattanooga golfer to compete in the Magic City tying for 29th playing as an individual in the 2016 NCAA Regionals at Shoal Creek Country Club.
