The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team scored a 23-16 win over Little Rock at the Oklahoma State quadrangular meet in Stillwater, Okla., today.  The Mocs also dropped matches to the No. 6 Cowboys (32-9) and the Beavers (39-6) to move to 2-2 on the season. 

"I thought we came out and wrestled hard," stated UTC head coach Kyle Ruschell.  "We were strong in some areas, but we gave up some points in some simple positions, so we know what we have to work on."

UTC opened against the Cowboys in historic Gallagher-Iba Arena.  Junior Colton Landers put the Mocs on the board with a 9-4 decision against Andrew Nieman.  Freshman Weston Wichman scored a pin for Chattanooga (4:44) over Jalin Harper for the other points in the opening dual.

Senior Fabian Gutierrez posted a 5-3 decision over Khyler Brewer to start off the Little Rock bout.  The Trojans took the next three to build a 13-3 lead.  Wichman started the comeback with a 6-4 decision over Thomas Lisher at 157, followed by junior Drew Nicholson's 12-2 major decision against Alexander Hernandez. Junior Hunter Fortner posted a decision at 174 and junior Matthew Waddell had a pin at 184 to give UTC a 19-13 advantage.  Freshman Logan Andrew's major decision at 197 clinched the dual win.     

Nicholson and Waddell had the two wins for UTC in the dual against the Beavers.  Nicholson scored a 7-3 decision against Aaron Olmos, while Waddell had a 4-0 shutout against Ryan Reyes.

"Overall, I was pleased with the trip," added Ruschell.  "We competed hard against Oklahoma State, but could have been sharper in the other two.  We are ready to get back home and prepare for next weekend."

Up next for the Mocs is the start of the Southern Conference season with matches against The Citadel and Gardner-Webb.  Both duals take place on Sunday, Jan. 17, in Boiling Springs, N.C.
