Postgame Quotes
Â
Katie Burrows, Head Coach
On holding Samford's offense in check.
"I would say we did a good job for a while in keeping them from getting the shots that they wanted. We had too many blown coverages when it got tight. I told them when things get tight, that's when you have to gel even more. There are certain things that can't happen when you are trying to dig yourself out of a hole. You don't have that margin for error. That killed us, giving them second opportunities."
Â
On what caused the tense up in the fourth.
"I felt like, and I expressed this to the girls, when things get tight, we have to gel. I felt like people were trying to take things on individually a little bit, and we can't do that. That's the time we have to stick together and trust the process even more. It's all well intended, but we can't have people starting play like individuals. We have to keep moving the ball, reverse the ball, just being smart with it."
Â
On pushing through adversity.
"We talk about knocking people off their game, there's four quarters you have to play, and you have to keep pushing through. The ball is going to fall. It's at what point do you just quit or say that you're going to push through it. We just have been a team that digs themselves out of holes well. It's just not been in our favor. We need to have a better start."
Â
Abbey Cornelius, Jr.-F
On a rough fourth quarter.
"It was tough. I think some of it might have been us getting tired. They picked up their energy a little bit more than us and when they made that run, I think instead of fighting back, we kind of got back on our heels."
Â
On picking up after a slow start.
"We just got together and said that we're better than this. We know we can play defense and we knew what they were capable of. I'm not sure where that slow start came from but once we got back together and played defense, we got some things going."
Â
On the quick turnaround with Samford again on Saturday.
"It's strange. We're still trying to get used to it after last weekend and trying to make those adjustments on such a quick turnaround. The coaches watch the film and they do everything they can to put us in the best position to win."
Â
On moving forward.
"Our non-conference schedule prepared us for these quick turnarounds, so we'll get to practice tomorrow and make those adjustments. We'll get our bodies ready and be ready to go Saturday. We know it's going to be a long fight. This one game isn't the end of the world and if we can get a win Saturday, it'll be big for us."
