Postgame Quotes

Katie Burrows, Head Coach
On what was the difference between Thursday and today.
"All of the above. We had a decent start to practice yesterday and it didn't end well. We had some conversations that ultimately resulted in me being angry at them. But they had some discussions obviously and made the decision they wanted to respond and respond in a positive way and get after it. We sat and we learned for 40 minutes in the film session. They were willing to get better. They came in this morning and prepared really well. When our team decides to be good, they're pretty darn good. But that's a decision they have to make every day they step in the gym."

On importance of jumping out to a fast start.
"Anytime you're competing, if you can set the tone, you will have the upper hand. I don't think we're unequipped to be able to come from behind, I just don't think we can do that consistently. Are we capable? Yes, we are, but why even go there when you can jump out to a good start. It starts with executing at both ends of the floor. We kept getting it inside their zone today and kept being patient. You have to set the tone and you have to do it from the tip, and our girls did that today."

On consistently performing at a high level.
"If you can stay consistent at that level, that's why you see teams at the next level, because you expect that from them because the program has developed that culture. It needs to become who we are all the time and not just sometimes. I think they get it, it's just a matter of being more consistent with it. I feel like we have to learn to compartmentalize a little better, too. There's being able to shift gears and get your mind ready to go from class to playing a game. It's about how you adjust, and I think we're capable of that."

Eboni Williams, Jr.-F
On the team putting its foot down.
"We had a rough couple of days and I feel like we all made a choice to not settle for this. We knew we needed to pull together because we know we're a good team. We came out energetic, communicating, and applied pressure, which I don't think we applied enough pressure last time."

On importance of coming out strong.
"It was really important. If we didn't come out with the juice today, they would have kicked us in our mouth again. But the fact we came out strong and were lively on the bench, it gave the people on the court energy as well."

On defending Samford's perimeter attack.
"We changed it around a little to where they can't have those open looks. We got in there faces to not allow enough space for them to get the shot off because all of them have such a quick release."

On the win and moving forward.
"It feels amazing, but we have to keep it going. We can't take it lightly. We can reminisce on this tonight, but tomorrow is another battle to be fought."

Abbey Cornelius, Jr.-F
On the team's efforts tonight.
"We just came out with more energy today. I thought we came out with such a slow start on Thursday and they had the first punch and we weren't able to swing back. We were able to get the first punch today. We were able to keep the energy up."

On the win over Samford.
"Anyone is good, obviously, but against a good team like that who always plays well against us and has really good players, and who just beat us Thursday night, it feels good."
