Postgame Quotes
Â
Katie Burrows, Head Coach
On holding ETSU's leader scorer scoreless and overall defensive effort.
"One of the things we've really harped on is that we had to realize to make a priority to take their strengths away. Their job for battle was to not let her get comfortable. We wanted her to work for every point. We knew what their tendencies were and I thought we did a good job of taking those away. The things I feel like we did a good job overall defensively, were just staying disciplined to defending without fouling. We did give up way too many offensive rebounds so we'll have to work on that."
Â
On the duo of Eboni Williams and Bria Dial.
"Nothing [is better] right now. It hasn't not happened in the last several games. With both of them being upper classmen, seasoned and both of them just knowing who they are. They know their strengths and how can they make them known. I'm really proud of how they're playing together. We just have so many players to compliment that. A lot of teams have that but it's the other things they bring out there."
Â
On setting the tone in the conference opener.
"We talked about conference play and how everyone is 0-0 now. Nothing else up to this point matters. Everyone is going to be gunning for us, per every year and specifically ETSU. You have an in-state rival in conference, it's automatically going to be tougher. I told them it's going to be a battle and they have to play hard every single second. I tried to make them understand how important this first game is because it can set the tone, and they bought into it."
Eboni Williams, Jr.-F
On the scoring duo with Bria Dial.
"That's a dangerous combination because if you can't stop one of us, the other one can start hitting. It's an advantage for us and the team."
Â
On staying out of foul trouble.
"I noticed that I usually get ticky-tack fouls on small things. My team needs to be on the court, so I try to avoid those fouls and make sure to keep my hands up to not get those calls."
Â
On opening up SoCon play with a win.
"It's super important that we went out there and got this win. We worked hard and now this gives us an advantage to look at the things we need to do in conference."
Â
On the difference between two halves.
"I think we realized that we were letting them speed us up and taking quick shots. Whenever we moved the ball and rotated the ball, their weak side opened up and created shots for us."
Â
Bria Dial, Sr.-F
On scoring duo with Eboni Williams.
"I feel like it's dangerous. We definitely play well together, and I love playing with Eboni. I feel like no one can focus on just one player on this team. I feel like this entire team is dangerous."
Â
On success against the press and finding open shots.
"I love it, for sure. I'm always just trying to get back and wait for someone to see me in the corner. I know that my teammates are looking for me and when they catch on it's great. We don't want to be pressed so when I'm making shots, they'll come out of it. I feel like I'm helping my team. And I like the open shots."
Â
On the team's chemistry and importance of conference opening win.
"I feel like we're playing better together. I enjoy this team, it's a great group. We play so well together it's like a family bond. We know each other so well at this point. It was very important. It's always better to start off on the right foot than the wrong and I'm thankful for that. Hopefully we can keep moving and rolling and stay on this streak."
