VIRGINIA BEACH---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is eighth with 18 holes to play at the Evie Odom Invitational. The Mocs 286 today provides a 571 total which is two behind North Florida in seventh and 11 clear of Campbell and host Old Dominion in ninth. That's come behind the stellar work of Dorota Zalewska.

Zalewska turned in a 3-under 67 Monday for a two-day total of 135 (-5). That's the lowest 36-hole tally in school history besting Emily McLennan's 136 at the 2015 Fall Invitational. It's four strokes lower than her previous best of 139 in the opener this year in Knoxville.

Zalewska had five birdies and two bogeys over her second 18. Her 10 birdies over the two days leads the tournament and she's tied for the best work on the par 4s at 5 under.

Esme Hamilton shot a second straight 71. Her 142 (+2) is just one stroke out of the top 10 sitting tied for 12th. Beatriz Barrios and Carolina Hortian each had 74 with Megan Docherty's 77 serving as the drop. Barrios (148), Docherty (149) and Hortian (151) are within three shots of each other.

The group's 571 total is tied for the second lowest for the program with the last visit to Princess Anne Country Club in 2019. The Mocs need 281 to match the all-time best tourney total of 852 which captured the 2015 Fall Invitational.

Chattanooga made the turn at level par and the cumulative total through 13 holes was 3 under. Hortian's birdie there was the last made by a Moc on the day. It mirrored the end of the opening round.

"It was the same thing again today," Coach Colette Murray noted. "We played great for 15 or so holes and let it get away from us. The plan tomorrow is to finish strong both in the sense it's the last day as well as the last three holes."

Charlotte has the lead after 279 today gives the 49ers 561. College of Charleston is next at 564 followed by Coastal Carolina, Sacramento State and South Florida's 865. UCF's Tunrada Piddon continues as the leader at 133 just ahead of Zalewska, and two others.

Tuesday's final round begins at 8 a.m. Hortian leads off the first hole playing with North Florida and ODU. Docherty (8:11), Barrios (8:22), Hamilton (8:33) and Zalewska (8:44) follow.
