Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Katie Burrows:
On the message to the team postgame.
"It's the same every day. They have to keep their heads up and work on moving forward. They are brokenhearted, and I am for them. I'm trying to give them positives and encourage them. From the outside in, you don't see all of the positives. We got a much better stop today. I was disappointed in our defense and the level of intensity today. The first five minutes, we were getting hands everywhere and we lost that. We got it back and it was just too late. Our team is not mature enough yet to dig ourselves out of the holes we get ourselves in. We fight hard. These kids will never stop fighting. I told them 'you have to fight like dogs every day, not just in basketball, but also in life.' The simple fact is, we don't have to wait long to try again."
On the similarities between this year and the 2019-20 season.
"I think about two years ago when we had to fight out of a mess we put ourselves in, we ended up sharing the [SoCon] title that year, so it is possible. It does come down to conference. what's happening right now is not acceptable, but make no mistake, our girls understand that. They are hurting and are struggling. I put it into perspective for them that you have to fight for what you want and it doesn't always go the way you want it to. It's my job to keep coaching them and stay positive. I'm going to help them move forward. You can't change the past you can only change what you do moving forward."
On the message to Dena Jarrells after the game.
"I told her, 'I wouldn't have put you in that situation if I didn't have confidence in you.' She has guts. I told her in the locker room that sometimes the shots don't fall. They practically handed the game to us on a silver platter during the last 29 seconds. [We] executed those plays and the shots just didn't fall."
