Game 9 – Alabama – Dec. 5 – McKenzie Arena
Postgame QuotesÂ
Head Coach Katie Burrows:
On the difference from the first to the second half.
"Alabama went into a zone and changed their defense up in the second half. [Alabama's coach] made some really big adjustments in the second and our kids were not prepared for that initially. It took a few minutes for our them to get used to it and once they did, we got quality looks. We were taking care of the ball, and that's when you need to start knocking down shots. We took care of the ball, got off to a good start, now we are making runs… we just don't have that one dagger. We took a lot of steps forward today to be a better basketball team, in the end, their pressure got to us in the third quarter.
Positives from the first half.
"We were patient with our offense, we weren't forcing things and we weren't turning it over. In the second half we weren't necessarily turning it over, but we were doing too much dribble-drive, one-on-one. We took care of the ball, now we need to progress from there and trust in our offense."
On Abbey Cornelius's performance.
"Abbey is doing all she can do. There were a couple times she could've finished more with the rock today and she knows that. I got on her a couple weeks ago about taking care of the ball. She is just trying to make things happen and she's desperate to help us win. Abbey can't do much more. She is our most disciplined defender and offensively is getting things done in a lot of different ways."
Abbey Cornelius – Jr., F.
On what sparked the team's early success.
"It's credited to ball movement. The team did a really good job sticking to the plan and sharing the ball."
On Alabama's defense.
"They are tough. Any SEC team is going to be physical and fast. The fact we were able to get quality looks is very encouraging."
