Donor Spotlight: Dr. Terrence "Terry" Major

Name: Dr. Terrence "Terry" Major
Spouse: Brenda Major
Mocs Club Member Since: 1987
City of Residence: Chattanooga, TN
Alma Mater: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
Occupation: Dentist

Why did you decide to join the Mocs Club and support Chattanooga Athletics?
I have been attending basketball and football games since I was in high school and I enjoy watching the programs build. As a member of the UTC band, I was able to attend all the home games and some of the road games including the National Chamionship games in Evansville, Indiana and Springfield, Massachusetts. I believe it is important to help fund programs like UTC as TV is taking away live attendance at games in markets like ours. It is also a fun afternoon or evening that is easy to attend without a long drive and terrible traffic. TV cannot duplicate the feeling of live events!

What is your favorite memory as a Mocs fan?
There are many, but two come to mind. First, when I attended the 1977 National Championship game in Springfield, Massachusetts. There is nothing like experiencing that in person. The second was when we won the game against Illinois in the 1997 NCAA tournament. I was in Toronto and had a lot of trouble finding the game on TV.

What would you tell others in the Chattanooga community to get them involved in the Mocs Club and supporting Chattanooga Athletics?
Mid-major sports programs can really struggle to meet all the needs of the student-athletes and if we want to keep college sports alive in our community we must step up and help. These events are fun for the family, reasonably priced and easy to attend. I would hate to see them disappear.

What would be your advice to the current Chattanooga student-athletes?
Remember the first word, student. Get an education whether your career involves athletics or not. Life throws us a lot of curves and we need to be prepared for them.

What is the most important lesson you have learned in life?
Happiness is a choice. Choose it. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

What are two fun facts about you?
I have a degree in Music from UTC and have used it as an avocation by playing in two bands. Though my career is in dentistry, I love being a musician. My wife and I love to travel and want to see as much of this country as possible.

Final thoughts?
Support your alma mater. Universities need not only finanical support but need alumni to come back and visit the campus frequently. You will develop many lifetime relationships.
