The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team improved to 3-0 with a 6-1 win over UNC Ashville today.  The Mocs won the double point and five singles matches at McCallie's Strang-Voges Tennis Center in Chattanooga. 

The Bulldogs took the doubles point in last year's 4-3 win in Asheville, but UTC came out strong in the opening matches today.  Freshmen Wilma Berqgvist and Callie Billman cruised to a 6-0 win over Brianna Taranto and Beatrice Faureng at No. 3. 

Junior Emma Van Hee and sophomore Caroline Gibbens were down 5-4 at No. 1 to Ami Grace Dougah and Rosie Dickson.  Junior Bogdana Zaporozhets and freshman Jessie Young clinched the point with a 6-2 win at No. 2 over Taylor Love and Lize Alet Morkel. 

Gibbens put UTC up 2-0 with a (6-2, 6-2) win at No. 6 over Love, followed by Zaporozhets' point at No. 5.  She was leading (6-3, 4-1) when Dickson was forced to retire.  Sophomore Polina Goloputova clinched the win with a (6-2, 6-2) victory over Faureng at No. 3. 

Berqgvist got a win at No. 4 over Anastasia Horvat (6-3, 7-5) and Van Hee grabbed the No. 2 match in three sets over Dougah [6-2, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-4)]. 

Goloputova is 5-0 on the year in single, including 3-0 in the spring.  Van Hee has won five straight and leads the team with an 8-3 record. 

"Great win today! The team was excited from beginning to end of this match," stated UTC head coach Chad Camper. "The excitement was on every court. Wilma Bergqvist really stepped up today."
