KENNESAW, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs jumped over Mercer into a fourth-place finish at the Pinetree Collegiate. A big spur to that leap was the 4-under par 68 by freshman Beatriz Barrios pacing the team's 295 round, tied for the second-lowest score of the day.
 
Barrios recorded a flawless card of four birdies and 14 pars in securing the Mocs lowest score since teammate Esme Hamilton's 66 in the final round of the 2019 Princess Anne Invitational. The 68 is tied for the 10th-best card in program history. It tied Emma de Groot '11 for low round by a freshman. de Groot's 68 also came in the final claiming the with at the 2008 Samford Women's Intercollegiate.
 
She combined with Dorota Zalewska for par or better numbers with Zalewska arriving to the clubhouse with level-par 72. Hamilton posted 76 with a 79 from Daphne van Son.
 
Barrios finished runner-up to the nation's second-ranked play, Beatrice Wallin of Florida State. Wallin earned a three-shot win as the duo were the only ladies to navigate Pinetree Country Club at par or better for 54 holes. The Seminoles Charlotte Heath headlined four tied for third with the 11th-ranked Heath coming at 1 over, two behind Barrios.
 
Hamilton and Zalewska completed their weeks with 227. That placed them tied for 29th, two ahead of van Son. She ended up tied for 36th at 229.
 
Fifth-ranked Florida State pulled away with the victory shooting 862, 2-under par. Host Kennesaw State was a distant second with 887 ahead of the Southern Conference trio of ETSU (892), Chattanooga and Mercer (899). The bottom five consisted of East Carolina (902), Penn State (906), Delaware (906), Rutgers (911) and Memphis (916).
 
The Mocs return to action next Monday at a familiar locale. The ladies host the 2021 Chattanooga Classic at Black Creek Club. The field plays 36 holes on Monday, March 29, before a final 18 on Tuesday.
