TEAM NOTES
MOCS PUT A PIN IN 37TH WINNING SEASON
For the 37th time since the 1974-75 season, the Mocs have posted a winning season at 14-9. All six of the Mocs head coaches have at least one winning season while Wes Moore had 14 in his 15 seasons at the helm. With a 5-4 mark in non-conference play this year, UTC recorded its 28th winning non-conference season overall and 30th SoCon season in 38 seasons.
Â
HIGH SCORING GAMES
When scoring 70 or more points, the Mocs are 7-2. The two losses came at Troy and a hard-fought two-point loss to Vanderbilt. The Mocs have topped 90 points once this season in its victory over Georgia Southern at the GSU Holiday Classic in December. The last time UTC topped 90 points was a triple overtime victory at ETSU last season.
Â
LEADING FROM THE BENCH
Four times the Mocs were led in scoring by a bench player.
Dena Jarrells has done it twice. She had 15 points in the Mocs two-point loss to Vanderbilt and a career-high 17 in UTC's win at ETSU.
Kallie Searcy was the Mocs' top points-getter in the Mocs loss at Mercer and Anna Walk led UTC to a win over Western Carolina career-best 16 points.
Â
SHOOTING 50 PERCENT
The Mocs have topped 50 percent from the field three times this season and won all three. On the flip side, not a single UTC foe has shot 50 percent or better. The best offensive effort was 44.8 percent by Wofford.
Â
PUTTING IT ON THE LINE
The Mocs went 30-of-38 from the free throw line against Western Carolina in February. That tied for fourth most free throws ever made in a game by the Mocs.
Â
FIVE SCORE DOUBLE FIGURES TWICE
The Mocs placed five in double figures twice this season. The first was against former Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern.
Bria Dial led all scorers with a career-high tying 23 points.
Eboni Williams also topped the 20-point mark.
Abbey Cornelius added 16 while
Sigrun Olafsdottir (16) and
Morgan Hill (13) each chipped in career-bests. Against Mercer, the Mocs starters all hit double digits. Cornelius led with 14 points, Dial and Olafsdottir added 12 apiece while Williams and
Amaria Pugh knocked in 10 points each in the win.
Â
MOCS POST FIVE GAME WIN STREAK
The Mocs defeated Georgia Southern at the GSU Holiday Classic in Atlanta, sparking a five-game win streak. UTC gathered wins over Georgia State and North Alabama in non-conference play then won back-to-back contests against SoCon foes ETSU and Furman. The Paladins snapped the streak in the second game of the series.
Â
MOCS CLAIM GSU HOLIDAY CLASSIC TITLE
UTC defeated host Georgia State in the final game of the 2020 GSU Holiday Classic in Atlanta in overtime.
Eboni Williams recorded UTC's first 30-10 game since 2015. The Mocs shot 61.1 percent in the opening period with a 27-12 lead but GSU tied the game at 65 with 0.8 seconds remaining to force overtime. UTC outscored the Panthers 8-5 in the extra period.
Â
CHATTANOOGA RAINS DOWN THREES ON GEORGIA SOUTHERN
The Mocs went 4-of-27 from the 3-point line against former SoCon rival Georgia Southern at the GSU Holiday Classic. Fourteen is fourth-best in school history and seventh time the Mocs have had at least 14.
Â
LONG-RANGE BOMBERS
The Mocs have made at least one 3-pointer in 675 consecutive games dating back to December 1999. That's more than 21 years! Chattanooga reached the 600-consecutive game mark against UT Martin on November 28, 2018 at the Roundhouse. According to current unofficial research, this is the second-longest streak in the nation behind Iowa State who has more than 800 dating back to 1995.
Â
MOCS MOUNT COMEBACK AT AUSTIN PEAY, WIN ON BUZZER BEATER
After trailing in the second quarter by 20 points and again in the third by the same difference, the Mocs put together scoring runs in each period and into the fourth to come away with a last second one-point victory at Austin Peay. It is the Mocs' largest comeback to-date this season and largest since overcoming a 15-point deficit against Arkansas State at the Roundhouse in 2015.
Â
OPENING THE BOOK ON SEASON 47
UTC begins its 47th season of play as a Division I team and has had just six coaches in it's history. The Mocs are 881-488 (.644) over 46 years, averaging just under 20 wins per season.
