CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team opened up the season with a 5-2 victory over Jacksonville State on Friday evening at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center held on the campus of The McCallie School.

 

Following the victory, Chattanooga opens the season 1-0. Jacksonville State falls to 0-2 on the season after the defeat.

 

"The ladies competed well tonight. Jacksonville State is an up-and-coming program so it's a great win and start to the season," said head coach Chad Camper.

 

The Mocs started off with a point following the doubles matches after the tandems of Jessie Young and Callie Billman and Emma Van Hee and Coco Bosman posted 6-2 and 6-4 victories, respectively.  The duos were slotted in the first and second pairings of the day.

 

In singles action, Chattanooga featured four victories coming from the first three and the fifth slotted matchups. Nicole Abel won in the first singles match 6-1, 6-3 before Jessie Young won 7-5, 6-4 and Caroline Gibbens turned in a 6-3, 6-3 victorious effort. The lone senior on the squad, Van Hee coasted her way to a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the fifth slot.
