TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team saw single victories from Emma Van Hee and Lilly Holmes during a hard-fought 5-2 defeat to SEC-member Alabama on Saturday evening in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Following the loss, Chattanooga drops its first dual of the spring season and now carries a 2-1 overall record. Alabama improves to 4-0 after the victory.
"The ladies fought hard today," said head coach Chad Camper. "This season us all about seizing the opportunities. We were successful at a few spots but need to improve in a few places."
Van Hee posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory in singles play over Alabama's Anna Parkhomenko while Lilly Holmes wrapped up the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Ansley Cheshire. Nicole Abel dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to No. 88 Loudmilla Bencheikh while Carolina Gibbens also faced ranked competition, falling 6-3, 6-0 to No. 103 Petra Sedlackova.
Doubles play also featured ranked foes for the Crimson Tide. Callie Billman and Jessie Young battled in a 6-3 defeat to the No. 19 ranked pairing of Anne Marie Hiser and Bencheikh in the top doubles slot.
Chattanooga (2-1, 0-0 SoCon) returns to action tomorrow with a 4 p.m. ET home matchup against Lee University at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center on the campus of The McCallie School. Live stats and video links will be available on the schedule page.
