Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Katie Burrows
Opening Statement:
"I'm so disappointed for them. They battled, they really, really gutted it out the best that they could. That's the difference between having seniors on the court and having freshmen on the court. You know Dougherty just decided she was going to take it over. All but one of those shots that she hid in the fourth quarter were contested. It's just something that she's always been able to do really well."

On 3pt defense:
"Houpt killed it from three (4-8). And it's frustrating because it was one of the things that we were doing a good job of finding her in the first half. We just didn't get our rotations when she hurt us and was able to help pull the lead out and then Dougherty hit the dagger home, you know, and just got out of reach for our for our younguns, but I am super proud of them for their effort."

On youth vs. Mercer experience:
"My thing for them today was you were younger, and we're going in and playing against a big team of veterans, so just make your presence known. Okay, you don't have to sit back quietly as freshmen are apt to do, right. And so I told them, I said, anybody that cuts through the lane, that equals your check, you're giving them a check to let them know, Hey, I'm here and you're not gonna move freely. At some point, I think fatigue may have set in a little bit; they got a couple more fast break points there. We were doing really well with that until like late third and the fourth quarter. We got tired and just didn't get back. And you know, mentally you just struggle a little bit to kind of stay engaged (when fatigued). And so, again, super proud of the two -and-a-half quarters that we played. And then like I say, that end of the third and the fourth was a struggle."

Slow start turned around quickly:
"You know, we started off slow. Had a couple of early turnovers, just kind of silly stuff. And our defense created some offense for us. Addie Grace actually created a lot of that for us because she was being active. How many does she have….she had four steals, you know, and so I knew I knew it had to be a pretty good number. We were just was able to get after it caused some issues there. We're able to get some buckets and transition early or even just be able to pull it out and get some good looks."

On the play of Amaria Pugh:
"Mari did a great job today. I mean, first game back, she had a practice and then came in here today. She just put her head down and got to the rim. I was really, really proud of the effort that she put in and trying to she kept us in it offensively."
