DENVER---The Chattanooga Mocs were a mile high today playing the opening round of the Ron Moore Invitational. The ladies shot 293 at the University of Denver Highlands Ranch Course. That puts the group ninth in a clustered field after 18 holes.
 
Junior Beatriz Barrios led the way with a 1-under 71. She posted four birdies against three bogeys for her fifth par or better card, four under par, in 10 rounds this season.
 
She was joined on the four counting cards by Carolina Hortian, Dorota Zalewska and Megan Docherty. Docherty finished first out of this set with a 3-over 75. Hortian was the next to sign her card with a 1-over total of 73. Zalewska was the last Moc to finish the day coming in at 74 (+2). Kera Healey's 79 served as the drop score.
 
"We played well today, we just let a few shots slip away at the end," Coach Colette Murray explained. "We are in a good place mentally. We just need to let today roll off our backs and prepare to play a complete 18 holes tomorrow."
 
Vanderbilt is the team leader with 280. New Mexico sits in second at 284. The Lobos' Napat Lertsadwattana is the individual leader with a tourney record tying 65. There are six teams that shot 2 to 5 over serving as the split between fourth and ninth place.
