Postgame Quotes
Â
HEAD COACH SHAWN POPPIE
On the play of Raven Thompson
"Raven you can do so much for us. And when you have somebody who zones like they did, I thought in the first half when she gets in foul trouble, it took her our high post threat away and then we just got to passing around and around. We got some decent looks but I just think she's such a playmaker for us in spots as an undersized forward it's really hard and, you know, we got to get her to play smarter at times. She's been in foul trouble I feel like every game, but she does so much for us."
Â
On halftime talk about shooting
"I said kept keep shooting. Keep shooting. We had a few that went around the perimeter and we shot them. Like if we can get that thing inside out and it's what we do every day, I don't want to tell him to stop shooting. I want to continue to build their confidence. I've watched Yazz [Wazeerud-Din] in here for hours and hours and hours make that. So for her it was more so I didn't think her rhythm was there, so keep shooting but get yourself in rhythm. Use your feet. I don't think her feet were set. She was kind of throwing it a little bit early on."
Â
On Yazz Wazeerud-Din's shooting
"That's why I say keep letting it fly. I told her one time in the first half. You don't shoot the next one. I'm going to take you out. When she came over there towards the end of the first half, I looked at her, I said "you're 0-ofor-9. The likelihood of you missing the next nine aren't very likely. Keep shooting it, keep shooting" and that's kind of what happened. I mean, again, I thought she got some better rhythm three's but we play inside out basketball and we get the right kids shooting it. I think that's a recipe for success for this group."
Â
On Sigrun Olafsdottir starting the game
"Sigrun she's a security blanket for me. But some of that has not allowed her to get in the rhythm. I've used her in so many positions that she's not been able to get comfortable. She's been practicing her tail off and I thought it'd be a wonderful opportunity to change some things up. I loved the idea of her size mixed with Yazz and that press break to see over the trap, leg AG [Addie Grace Porter] get in the middle and see how they're going to guard it and I thought she played poised. She gave us some numbers. She's always been in the plus minus in the good but usually looking at the stats and it's like zeros across you know. So I think putting her in one position for 90 percent of her minutes out there allowed her to get some comfort. Proud of what she did how she stuck with this. She'll be a big piece for us moving forward."
Â
On the rebounding of 5-4 Addie Grace Porter
"She's got unbelievable timing and a knack for the ball. Rebounding is a big plus, but that's just her personality. And when she's got that mindset, we got a chance to be pretty good."
