Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Shawn Poppie

Opening Statement
"First and foremost, thanks for coming. Showing us support, the fans that showed up tonight, we finally, finally got over the hump. You know this early in the year we've had some heartbreaks and so it was nice to finally get that winning feeling. I thought our kids continue to compete. We've competed all year. We we got to make some smarter plays. Finish. I want to finish the right way but proud of the group we have to get in there and be able to celebrate a win."

On where the season is and where it is going
"We're gonna celebrate this one till about midnight. And then we're gonna flip the page and go, try to get one up in Asheville and maybe we'll treat it as if maybe a trend for when March comes on. I think when you're trying to establish a winning culture, there's so much that goes into it. And I think with what we've went through in the last two and a half weeks, we could have very easily folded and or felt down. Instead we've learned and continue to compete and we got a group in that locker room that's willing to be coached and coached hard and loved on and when you got that you got a chance. I'm really happy that they get to celebrate a win tonight because I thought they did a lot of really good things shot the ball."

On shot selection and shooting so well tonight
"I thought we got good shots for the most part, you know, a couple there against the zone, or maybe we just settled but how we want to play is together. We want to get that ball inside out, whether it be off, you know, post entries, or we get that thing downhill and make plays in the first half. We didn't do it consistently. You know, I thought that they overhelped and we didn't read and so what happens is you end up taking shots you don't practice every day. In the second half when I think we get in there drive, draw to, kick. That's what we practice every day. And so it's wild that you start making shots that you practice every day. So I think that had something to do with it. The other is we just continued to put the work in, shoot with confidence, shoot to make and again that was nice to see it go in tonight."

On the play of true freshman Brooklyn Crouch
"I am proud, proud, proud of Brooklyn Crouch. You know, she really struggled through the summer. She struggled when we first got into practice. Homesickness and it's just as different right? She comes as Miss Tennessee at that level, and it was hard. It was hard. And the hard part was it was easy to retreat back home. She's so close and so she met with me about a month ago and just asked How can I fix it so you got put two feet all in right, we're here to help you and get extra extra work in the gym, get in here and watch some film and boy since that day, she's been two feet all in and just gotten better. I'm really proud because of the work she's put in and put two feet all in with the process."

On how the team feels after getting the win
"We feel real good about ourselves, especially after the tough losses we took. So, this one was like a big one that we needed to boost more confidence."

What was learned from the close games
"We just got to be smart and when teams start pressuring up on us, like in the fourth quarter, when it's crunch time, we just gotta be smart and be extra disciplined during that time."
