Postgame Quotes
Â
Head Coach Shawn Poppie
On the UNC Asheville getting close in the third quarter
"We stopped defending. We did ball-watching and maybe we got away with it a little bit earlier in the game and then all of a sudden we just keep doing it and then they made us pay.
Â
"Raven Thompson has been phenomenal for us, but two times she helps what we call strongside out of the corner and 23 takes advantage and bang, bang and all of a sudden the momentum… We said it at half, that first five, six minutes of the second half of you kind of extend this thing out - not that you're ever comfortable - but it kind of takes all the life out of them. We did for two minutes and then the next three of that five minute segment we come into the huddle and I said 'well?' We're in for a dogfight.
Â
"Was it pretty? Absolutely not. We're seven games in. I do think down the stretch though, we executed some stuff that ends up getting us a win. We executed a couple of sets there down the stretch that we hadn't really went over recently, and man! the baseline out of bounds were Addie Grace [Porter] comes off a hand off and then refuses it. Big two points for us. We executed down the stretch at times when we needed it. Nice to get a win."
Â
On Abbey Cornelius in foul trouble early
"We need her out there. Where I just came from, Virginia Tech, we needed Elizabeth Kitley in there a lot too. She was so smart when to attack the ball and when to not and Abbey says 'I'm gonna go after it.' Now what happens is you put the whistle into the refs hands of making some calls that maybe are 50-50. But she gets two early ones that just weren't overly smart. But it's her being aggressive. I gotta get her to figure out when to when not to because we need her out there."
Â
On keeping UNCA out of the game when they battled to get back in
"My goodness, they hit a couple there when they needed them to get back in the game. A couple of threes they hit. Honestly, I think we're okay with it. I like to start with a little bit more pressure, but I mean, a kid shoots it from, you know, five feet behind the line and as a 20-something percent shooter, there's certain things we're okay with. It's just the timing of it to get to get back in the game."

Â
On the leadership of Addie Grace Porter
"She obviously didn't shoot the ball great tonight but she kept up as a leader. Every huddle I go over there she is communicating. Her and Yazz out there was frustrated and AG looked at her and said 'we need you" and I'm like "oh my goodness, that's what we need over here.' She's our leader.
