Postgame Quotes
Opening Statement
"Let me start by this. I am beyond proud of that group that we just had out there. To think how hard they played, how together they played, how they executed on the defensive end. We didn't execute when they got us rattled. And so I left that locker and there's a lot of tears in that locker room, which I joined them because this group, we got a chance. We got a chance and they've bought into what we're selling. They care about our program. We're going to be just fine. This one's on me. I did not have them prepared for what they threw at us late in the game. That's my fault. I told him that in the locker room. We will get better, I promise. I promise you that but that group right there that just showed out from where we have been to now I would like to think that that's something to be proud of. Today's on me. I'll take that for responsibility. That won't happen again."
On going toe-to-toe with Belmont who is receiving votes
"This group this group, I guess we're gonna have a chance. These games though, they can't tear you apart, right? There's gonna they're gonna be some finger pointing. Right? There's a lot of things that went wrong that last five minutes. That's my fault. I'll have more prepared. We'll put them in there. Let this take us forward. Right this can't set us back for Saturday. We got to get home we got to watch this film. Enjoy and learn from what we did well because by golly we held supposedly that the 28th best team in the country to 28% from the floor all the way through and be honest with you we give them 16 made free throws compared to our six right I mean maybe that's been on the road. I don't know what that comes from. We did some dumb things there. We turn it over and quick fouled late but my point being is is we got it we're gonna have a change right?"
On the play of the team and the end of the game
"It's seemed like they gotta trust one another. Right? So they had Belmont had their best defender on her right? We were in a sense in a one-two-one-one look out of a press break and I wanted to get it to Addie, swing, get it Yazz or whoever my other wing is, throw it opposite in and then settle. We tried it one time and we turned it over on that weak side and all of a sudden, we don't trust to do it again. You know, and so that's what I mean we got to learn that in the moments it gets frantic and everyone then wants to do it. You know just like anything sure you get in a hurry. We got to settle down and we tried to settle them down and you know you think about your call timeout but ended up being you needed them late. And so it's a learning. We got to learn. I did not have them prepared, but I also I'm just going to be real with you because I feel like I've been that since I got here. I wasn't sure that we were ready to come to Belmont and make them throw everything they had at us. And they did right which I think that we can every go and so for me, it's a proud moment but it's a gut punch because golly we had them on the ropes and we just couldn't finish them."
On the end of the game
Oh, this is this is you don't ever want to lose and I'm not in the moral victories. I'm not but I'm super proud of where they are and how they're handling it. They could be in there and think it's a moral victory but I had to raise every chin up. There's tears going on in there. They care about this program. There's a pride back in what we're doing. And they know they let one slip and I don't think there's any finger pointing in there. It's each of them can count their own mistakes and what they did wrong and you know again in a three-point game, a one possession game, even that last one I mean how many times Destiny i love her to death but how do you got to get open on the wing right? You can't just I call it dancing up the wing and Ray you got to catch it strong and we never even got into the execute and I really liked what we had there finish. Then we couldn't get to it but even that we get to lay up to the tie 'er.
What to take from this game for the next
Ya know like I said this. We got to learn from this. This can't take us backwards. This has got to take us forward. What's learn from it. We're young and we know now we get an opportunity to come back into the Roundhouse and hopefully we get some support. You know, head on out of that football game. Watch our football guys. Let's knockout Samford? And then while you guys celebrate, come on to the Roundhouse celebrate, see if we can put a put on a show.
