Lincoln Heck

Lincoln Heck and the Chattanooga Mocs open the home schedule with a visit from national power Iowa Saturday night.

NOTES | STATS

CHATTANOOGA---S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night! The Bay City Rollers knew this day would come. We're almost a month into the 2022-23 Chattanooga Mocs wrestling season, and it's finally here. The home opener takes center stage under the lights at McKenzie Arena.

The Mocs didn't shirk…didn't mince words…didn't look for the easy "dub". Nope, No. 2 Iowa is the starting point for the home slate that includes the likes of West Virginia and Indiana to balance the Southern Conference offerings of Campbell, Bellarmine, Gardner-Webb and Davidson.

What do it mean to this squad to finally get on the mat in front of the home crowd?

"I think our guys are really excited to sleep in their own bed and wrestle a quality team in a great atmosphere," Coach Kyle Ruschell began. "We could have a lineup with six different guys our fans haven't seen live in the last year. It's important for them to see what they're about.

"We don't want to wrestle the singlet; we want to wrestle the guy. Just go out there and just fight him without all we got and give ourselves a best chance of win."

The match is slated for a 7 p.m., Eastern time start. It's part of a day/night doubleheader with the men's basketball team squaring off with Johnson University at Noon. It broadcasts on ESPN+ with live scoring via Track.

QUOTABLE
"It's a big deal. Wrestling in this area is awesome. We've people stopping our guys at the grocery store and say, 'Hey I'm coming this weekend. Are you wrestling?'. It's just exciting atmosphere for the community." – Coach Kyle Ruschell on this weekend's buzz

"It's early in the season. Not only did we challenge them, we did it early so we can make the adjustments for the second half of the year. We wanted to give them the opportunity to wrestle high-quality guys. Those quality opponents, we're going to see at the national tournament. So, it's seeing them early, make the adjustments for the second half and then, execute our adjustments come nationals time." – Ruschell on the squad responding to the challenging schedule
