EATONTON, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team got the spring portion of the 2021-22 season off to a solid start with a 9-over 297 opening the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invite. The 4-player squad is tied for second with ETSU, two strokes behind Delaware.
 
Esme Hamilton recorded her sixth par or better card with a 1-under 71. It included a very steady three birdies, 14 pars and one bogey. It was closely supported by Dorota Zalewska's 1-over 73. Zalewska birdies two of the final three holes to put her squad in prime position.
 
Carolina Hortian added 75. She bogeyed three of the first four holes before a birdie at the par 5 fifth got her back to 2 over. A bogey on 16 gave her final total coming in just after Megan Docherty who carded 78 in the group in front at Great Waters Course.
 
"It's only the first round, but I am proud of how we started," Coach Colette Murray shared. "The conditions were not easy today, but we battled our way around the course. We have two more rounds to do. This group is excited the spring part of our season has started."
 
The key to the day was the Mocs play on Great Waters 10 par 4 holes. The ladies led the field in par 4 scoring (4.08) playing those 10 at just 3 over. For the day, the squad record nine birdies and 48 pars playing par or better on 57 of 72 holes (79.2%).
 
North Florida's Mindy Herrick is the early individual leader at 3 under. The Blue Hens Anna Kittelson is in second at 70 followed in third by Hamilton. Zalewska is tied for fthth, two shots further behind a 1 over.
 
Saturday's second round begins on No. 1 at 11:39 a.m. The Mocs are paired with Delaware and ETSU.
