NORTH MYRTLE BEACH---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team shot 301 over the opening 18 holes at the Southern Conference Championships. That put the ladies in fourth in striking distance of Furman and Mercer in first at 293 and ETSU in third with 296.
 
Dorota Zalewska shot 1-under 71 to pace the quartet. She's tied for second overall with two others behind Furman's Sophia Burnett's 70.
 
Esme Hamilton was tied for seventh, three back at 73. She (4) and Zalewska (5) had nine of the squad's 13 birdies. It's the 13th double-digit birdie total of the season. Megan Docherty added 78 to the team tally, while Carolina Hortian had 79.
 
Due to inclement weather in the forecast for Monday, the field began the second round this afternoon with the idea to complete as many holes as possible to avoid a stormy day two. The ladies will be on alert at possible times to hopefully complete the final holes remaining prior to Tuesday's Championship 18.
