CHATTANOOGA --- The fourth-seeded Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team saw its season end to the hands of top-seeded and 36^th ranked Furman 4-0 in the Southern Conference Championship semifinal round on a warm and sunny Friday afternoon at Champions Club in Chattanooga.
 
With the loss, Chattanooga is eliminated from the tournament and finishes the season 14-9 overall. Furman improves to 16-8 overall and advances to the SoCon title match against No. 2 ETSU.
 
"It was a great fight today. Everyone gave all they could and stayed competitive," said head coach Chad Camper.
 
"It was a great season for the team."
 
Furman took an early 1-0 lead after the doubles point, seeing victories from the No. 38 ranked tandem of Julia Adams and Ellie Schoppe (6-1) at No. 1 and Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder at No. 3 (6-2). Emma Van Hee and Nicole Abel held a 4-3 lead ahead of the clinching Paladins point.
 
A late battle in singles fell short for the Mocs. After going down 3-0 in the team total and seeing losses at the top two spots, three of the remaining four matches reached a deciding third set. The dagger came at No. 6 when Coco Bosman suffered a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 match-clinching defeat.
 
Caroline Gibbens held a 4-3 lead in the tiebreak set in her match while Callie Billman was at 0-0, also in the third. Van Hee was in the midst of a 6-6 lock in the second set of her match after earning the first set victory in 6-2 fashion.
