Women's Basketball Adds Newcomer Thompson to Roster

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga women's basketball head coach Shawn Poppie announced the addition of Raven Thompson to the Mocs' 2022-23 roster.

"We look forward to adding Raven to our women's basketball program," Poppie said. "She comes from a very well-known AAU program in Georgia (FBC) and had a phenomenal senior season.

"Raven has a high basketball IQ and skill set for a high school prospect. She will provide depth at numerous positions for our program. I'm excited to get Raven on campus and work on developing her on and off the court."

Thompson, a 5-10 forward from Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Ga., helped her team to an 85-29 (.746) record over four seasons. The Panthers appeared in three straight GHSA State Tournaments and advanced to the Elite Eight in her junior year and the Final Four in 2019-20.

She closed out her career with 1,365 points and 1,008 rebounds. She is a two-time 6-A All-Region Team selection and averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game her senior season, as well as three steals and three assists per game.

Thompson has earned a spot on the Langston Hughes Honor Roll all four years and is a dual enrollment student who earned her Associate of Science degree.

As a softball player for the Panthers, she received multiple offers to continue her career at the next level in that sport.

Thompson is the daughter of Florence and Aubrey Thompson. She has two sisters, Aisha and Destiny. Her father Aubrey played collegiately at Utah State and was signed by the Chicago Bears. Her sister Destiny is currently enrolled at Alabama A&M.

She joins fellow newcomers Brooklyn Crouch and Frode Flos van der Schans as well as transfers Yazz Wazeerund-Din and Takia Davis.
