Boyd Earns Second Academic All-America Honor

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Jonathan Boyd was named Academic All-America® by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He earned a spot on the 2021-22 Division I Men's Cross Country/Track and Field Third Team, CoSIDA announced Wednesday.

Boyd, a three-time Academic All-District selection, is the only Southern Conference representative on the three CoSIDA Academic All-America teams in back-to-back years and is the eighth men's cross country selection for Chattanooga.

"We are elated Jonathan has been selected as an Academic All-American again," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "It is nearly impossible to do it once, but to do it twice is incredible.  This award truly embodies what a student-athlete represents. There is absolutely no one who works harder in the classroom or on the track as Jonathan."

Boyd graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and is continuing his Electrical Engineering studies as a Master's Candidate. He has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout his academic career.

"He has such a great family that has instilled such wonderful values in him," Meyer said. "I know they are as proud of him as we are. He is humble, thoughtful, and dedicated and has been a pleasure to coach each and every second he has been here.

"That said, he possesses a fiercely competitive drive to be the best student and the very best athlete he can be. Jonathan is one of those kids as a coach you wish could be here forever. He has been a stellar representative of this team and this university."

Of the 45 members on the Academic All-America® Division I men's track & field / cross country team, Boyd is one of 18 to boast a perfect 4.0 GPA.

One of the Mocs' top runners, Boyd has consistently been a leader for UTC and in 2018 was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team. He will complete his eligibility with Chattanooga in the fall.

Boyd is just the second Mocs runner since Chris Berry (2013) to earn Academic All-District honors three times and the first to do it in three consecutive years. He joins Ian Mayne (2006) as just the second UTC runner to earn Academic All-America honors twice.

Boyd is the 27th Chattanooga student-athlete named a CoSIDA Academic All-America.
