CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs look to make a great impression this fall on the field. The athletics program is making a big one off it with three pieces of news with a direct impact on the national scene. Â
- Vice-Chancellor Mark Wharton is again serving on the FCS Athletics Directors Association Executive Committee. That was announced this month by NACDA.
- Head Coach Rusty Wright is on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee.
- Wharton was appointed to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee.
Â
Bonus note: senior offensive lineman
McClendon Curtis just accepted a second term on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee Student-Athlete Connection Group. He's one of 12 nationwide members from all three divisions of competition. He announced that during a visit to
This 'N That this week with James Howard.
Â
"I was especially proud to see McClendon take on that responsibility last year," Wharton shared. "It's important to take leadership roles when they are presented to us. Anytime we can have a positive impact on the student-athlete experience, whether it's as an athletics director, coach or student-athlete, we have to make the most of that time.
Â
"It's an honor for all of us to get to serve in these roles and represent Chattanooga."
Â
All three get to advocate for the sport in different ways. Wright and Curtis are more focused on the daily, while Wharton's role covers enhancing the FCS experience as well as the actual presentation of the FCS Playoffs.
