NEW ORLEANS---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team got the season started today with 36 holes at the Green Wave Fall Classic. The quintet started with a 298 before closing with 291 for a 589 total at Bayou Oaks at City Park's South Course.
 
Dorota Zalewska picked up where she left off last season. She shot an early 72 (E) before coming back with a 4-under 68 in the afternoon. Her 4-under 140 is tied for 12th in the event. Zalewska is 4 under over her last 10 collegiate cards.
 
Freshman Kera Healey had the second-lowest score in the morning with 74. That was closely followed by Beatriz Barrios' 75 with Megan Docherty closing out the team scoring with 77. Carolina Hortian's 81 was the drop score.
 
The afternoon saw Barrios join Zalewska in the red with a 1-under 71. Docherty and Hortian shot 76 apiece with Healey's 78 as the drop.
 
"We are disappointed we didn't finish the first round better," Coach Colette Murray said. "We bled too many shots (away) towards the end. We had a respectable round going in the afternoon.
 
"One more round left to get us in better position and finish this first event with our heads held high."
 
The Mocs are in 11th, three shots behind Seattle in 10th and one clear of playing partner Little Rock in 12th. Nebraska and LSU are tied for the team lead with 553. The Huskers Kelli Strand is the early leader at 12-under 132.
