Postgame Notes
 
TEAM
• Chattanooga fell 58-53 to Samford in the Mocs SoCon home-opener … UTC fall to 9-8 overall, 1-1 in SoCon play … Samford evens its record at 9-9 and remains unbeaten in league play at 3-0.
• Chattanooga leads the series 27-11 and 20-9 since Samford joined the SoCon in 2008-09 … The Mocs home court record against the  Bulldogs is 15-5.
• Chattanooga led 27-24 at the half … Samford outscored UTC 19-10 in the third and led 43-37 with 10 minutes to play … the Mocs shot 28.6 percent (4-14) in the third while Samford was 7-of-12 (58.3%).
• The Bulldogs outrebounded UTC 35-32 and scored 10 points on eight offensive boards while the Mocs had seven points on five off the offensive glass.
• The Mocs had 12 turnovers, second fewest of the season, but Samford was able turn that into 15 points … UTC scored eight points off 11 Bulldog miscues.
The teams matched up in the paint with 22 points apiece … Chattanooga had 16 points off the bench – all from Abbey Cornelius who came off the bench for the second straight game … Samford bench contributed 24 points led by Masyn Marchbanks with 11 points.
• Yazz Wazeerud-Din drained her fifth 3-pointer of the game with 2:29 to play to put Chattanooga up 53-52, but the Mocs would not score again and Samford scored the final six points for the win.
• Chattanooga shot 40.4 percent (21-52) for the game and was 6-of-19 (31.6%) from the arc and 5-of-11 from the free throw line … in the first half, UTC was 12-of-25 (48%) from the field.
• Samford shot 37.7% (20-53) for the game and was 8-of-16 from the 3-point line while shooting 62.5% (10-16) from the free throw line … The Bulldogs pulled ahead of the Mocs in the third quarter shooting 58.3% (7-12) from the floor and 60% (3-5) from deep.
