ASHEVILLE, N.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team started off the 2023 campaign in thrilling fashion, downing UNC Asheville 4-3 in the opening match of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown in Asheville, N.C.
Chattanooga opens the season 1-0 following the tight victory. UNC Asheville starts the year 0-1 following the result.
Freshman Pippa Bosman, sister of Coco Bosman, provided the clinching point for the Mocs in her first career action at the collegiate level. The victory marked the fourth-straight for UTC in singles action after the No. 1-2 pairings in both singles and doubles dropped tight decisions, allowing for a 3-0 deficit.
"Pippa Bosman really stepped up in doubles and singles today. We lost the doubles point, but the women fought back on every court," said head coach Chad Camper.
"It was great to see them come together when it mattered. There was a lot of pressure on Pippa, but she battled for the team. It was a great start to the season."
P. Bosman secured a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 slot of singles over Asheville's Beatrice Faureng to clinch the match. Paired with her sister Coco in the No. 3 doubles slot, the tandem earned a strong 6-2 result in their matchup.
Caroline Gibbens (No. 3), Nicole Abel (No. 4) and Lucia Garrigues-Melendez (No. 5) all joined P. Bosman in notching singles victories. Full results are below.
