Postgame Notes
Â
HEAD COACH SHAWN POPPIE
On using nine different players in the game
"Some kids earned trust. Some of it, the good Lord said 'hey, I'm going to force your hand a little bit.' With Abbey's [Cornelius] situation, we start Takia [Davis] and all of a sudden she gets 13 minutes out there. She didn't score, but I thought she had a wonderful 13 and a half minutes for us and she'll continue to grow. I think the nerves were there, but defensively, she's long, she executed. Practice helped."
Â
On fourth quarter struggles
"We've really got to find way, but the pressure took us out of some of our stuff, but we've got to hind a way to continue offensively. I thought for three quarters, we were as good as we've been in a while offensively. Just a matter if we're going to make or miss a shot. We got good looks. We were aggressive. Probably got a little tired there down the stretch."
Â
On the scoring drought late in the game
"We couldn't find that one dagger. We lost our minds a little bit. I'm not gonna lie to you. We come out of a timeout and we're running a play for Raven, but we're still in a press break. So we run our normal press break and then get it to Raven. Instead we do our own thing. They have to pay attention to detail in the biggest moments."
Â
On getting the first win on Southern Conference play
"ETSU was a 13-3 team in the Top 20 in the mid-major. For three quarters I thought we were the better basketball team. They made it a dog fight down the stretch. They're a really good basketball team, but so are we. To play three-and-a half quarters and get a win on the road in this league, 1-0, we get another week to think about it and more practice."
