The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's annual Mocs Give Day was another record-setting success for the UTC Athletics Department, according to numbers released Thursday. The fourth annual Mocs Give Day was held on October 3 and is UTC's yearly one-day giving event.
With the final totals in, Athletics raised $1,103,861 in cash and commitments from 711 donors. Both of those numbers shattered previous records, including a 31% increase in total dollars ($804,000) and a 45% increase in total donors (491) from last year's event.
"I am greatly appreciative of our dedicated alumni and donors who made Mocs Give Day such a huge success," stated Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Mark Wharton. "I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support we received, and this will greatly help us enhance the student-athlete experience at UTC."
The Mocs ran past their internal goals of $150,000 from at least 325 donors. Funds raised will provide student-athlete assistance in a variety of ways, including equipment, sports medicine, performance training, nutrition and educational assistance.
"Our Senior Associate Athletics Director Ryan Jones and his staff deserve a lot of credit for the success of Mocs Give Day," added Wharton. "They put together a strategic plan and worked with our external units to lead one of the strongest efforts on campus."
As a campus, UTC exceeded its Mocs Give Day goal, raising more than $1.7 million from 2,131 donors. Athletics accounted for 63% of the total dollars and 33% of the overall donors.
Mocs Give Day is held annually on the first Tuesday in October. Reminder that fans can still give anytime online to the athletics annual fund or a specific sport by clicking on the Mocs Club tab on GoMocs.com.
