ATLANTA, Ga. --- Chattanooga distance runner
Lesley Green placed second overall in the women's 5000 meter run and was one of seven Mocs to post personal best times Friday on Day One of the Georgia Tech Invite.
Green finished second behind Atlanta Track Club Elite runner Emma Grace Hurley with a personal best time of 16:46.20. The time was nearly 40 seconds better than her previous top time in the outdoor season and just over one second ahead of the time she posted in the same distance at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships earlier this year.
Emma Russum also set a PR, outpacing her previous best time by more than six seconds at 17:25.82 and placing 12
th overall.
"Lesley and Emma continued their great season," Chattanooga head coach
Andy Meyer said. "Lesley ran a tremendous race against a very tough field of 48. She went out with about eight others and made a hard move after about two kilometers, breaking away and catching all but one and setting her PR. Emma ran a very well-paced race."
In the men's 5000 meter run,
Aaron Isbell won the second heat with a time of 14:48.27 and finished 15
th overall.
"Aaron won his heat and ran his season best," Meyer said. "He came from mid-pack to take the lead and soloed out front the last mile."
Reagan Ruth ran the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.62, setting a PR in the event.
Imani Bryant was just off her PR with a time of 12.91 in the 100 meter dash.
"Reagan started us off with a good race," Meyer said. "Imani ran her best 100 dash of the year, beating several Mercer and Western Carolina sprinters."
Maddie Wheatcroft,
Faith Brown and
Leah Boyd all set PRs in the 1500 meter run. Wheatcroft was 20th overall and third in her heat with a time of 4:34.63. Brown, also third in her team, recorded a time of 4:48.30 and Boyd was just behind her in the sixth heat with a time of 4:48.68.
"Maddie ran a very patient race and had a great kick," Meyer said. "In their heat, Faith and Leah ran well, closing very hard."
The Mocs will return to Atlanta for Day Two of the Invite. Saturday starts with the 4x100 meter relay at 1:00 p.m. and concludes with the 4x400 meter relay at 4:45 p.m. Follow the action online at GoMocs.com.
