University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior
Jonathan Boyd was named Academic All-America® by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). He earned a spot on the 2022-23 Division I Men's Cross Country/Track and Field Second Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Boyd, a 4-time Academic All-District selection, is the only Southern Conference representative on the three CSC Academic All-America teams in back-to-back-to-back years and is the ninth men's cross country selection for Chattanooga.
"We are very excited for Jonathan and his family," Mocs head coach
Andy Meyer said. "He has meant the world to our team. This is a great and much-deserved honor. No one works harder at both his academics and athletics."
Boyd graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and completed his Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering in May. He maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout his academic career.
"Jonathan has been a leader for this team from the very minute he stepped on campus," Meyer added. "He conducts himself with the utmost integrity academically and athletically. He truly embodies what a student-athlete is and should be!
"I'm so proud of him and his commitment to excellence."
Of the 51 members on the three Academic All-America® Division I men's track & field/cross country teams, Boyd is one of 16 to boast a perfect 4.0 GPA. He is also one of eight repeat selections to the Division I team.
One of the Mocs' top runners, Boyd has consistently been a leader for UTC and in 2018 was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team. He completed his eligibility with Chattanooga last fall and was the Dayle May Award winner given to the UTC senior with the highest GPA.
Boyd is the only Chattanooga runner to earn Academic All-District honors four times and Academic All-America three times. He is the 28
th Chattanooga student-athlete named a CSC Academic All-America.
