CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs golf teams are in very enviable positions. Not only are their home courses fantastic to practice and play on, but they also call an award-winning practice facility home. The Player Development Complex is the 2023 Collegiate Field of the Year per the Tennessee Turfgrass Association.
"What Chip has accomplished with our facility is nothing short of miraculous," Women's Coach
Colette Murray praised. "He has transformed it from something we used, to something that prepares us in every way. I could not be more proud to see Chip and his staff honored for the work they do for our teams."
Â
Ward, superintendent at the facility since the summer of 2021, is assisted by Timothy Lawson. He had a special guest over the summer as 2023 NCAA Raleigh Regionals Champ
Dorota Zalewska helped out as she prepared to transition from the Mocs squad to her current status on the Ladies European Tour.
Â
Murray is not alone in her praise. Chattanooga's PGA Tour pro Stephan Jaeger '12 uses it as his base as well.
Â
"Congratulations to Chip," Jaeger said after his opening round 68 at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. "I can honestly say that the facility has everything I need to prepare for PGA Tour events. It's been a fantastic transformation since his arrival."
Â
Both women's and men's programs utilize the Player Development Complex throughout the year. It's a tremendous recruiting tool as well as preparation for events at all levels.
Â
"Chip and Tim do such a great job not only of maintaining a prized property so vital to our programs, but also developing it further," Men's Coach
Blaine Woodruff added. "It's a major piece to the puzzle that makes Chattanooga golf special."
Â
Both Mocs teams get underway early in 2024. The men tackle the Battle at Briar's Creek Feb. 5-6 in Johns Island, S.C., while the women return to action Feb. 23-25 at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational in Eatonton, Ga.
