Violeta Fernandez-Tagle saved her best for last leading the Chattanooga Mocs into a solid finish at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate.
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team finished fifth in a strong field at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate. Violeta Fernandez-Tagle's 66 headlined a final round 288 for the 877 total at Cherokee Country Club.
The Mocs finished behind champion Miami (862), No. 49 Campbell (867), No. 37 Tennessee (867) & No. 35 UCF (869) while ending up comfortably ahead of No. 48 Kent State (883) in sixth.
"We were really pleased with the play of V and Giulia," Coach Colette Murray shared. "It was a superb effort from them yet again. They carried the rest. We need more from the 3,4 & 5 spots and intend on figuring that out in the off season."
Fernandez-Tagle's 66 included six birdies. She wasn't alone. Giulia Foresta added 2-under 69 in support. Makenzie Cooper was next at 76, one better than Nieves Martin's 77. Kera Healey was another stroke back with her 78 serving as the drop number.
Fernandez-Tagle's day shot her 11 spots up the leaderboard finishing alone in third with a 1-under score of 212. Foresta tied for fourth, one back at even. Cooper and Healey had matching 229s with Martin's 230 next on the ledger.
Campbell went 1-2 at the top of the leaderboard with Mira Berglund (207) at medalist and Alicia Olsson (210) runner-up. Fernandez-Tagle was third with Foresta, UCF's Pimpsa Sisutham and Tennessee's Sofie Engsaeth rounding out the top 5 in fourth.
The Mocs are in hibernation until February. They'll head west to Arizona for the Westbrook Invitational on the 23rd and 24th at Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria.
