HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Chattanooga beach volleyball duo of Neva Clark and McKenna Faychak is set to make history for the program and the university this weekend, as the UTC pair heads to Huntsville, Alabama, to take part in the 2024 AVCA Beach National Championships.
The pair of Mocs have already helped the Chattanooga beach volleyball program rake in numerous firsts in the team's young history, including helping lead the Mocs to 2024 Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles. They will now continue to build upon their resumes by becoming the first two players in program history to compete in the prestigious tournament.
"Thrilled that our program is being represented in this event," head coach Darin Van Horn said. "It is a great event for the sport of beach volleyball and helping it continue to grow. Neva and Kenny are great representations of this program and I know they'll compete hard against tough competition. We are grateful for the opportunity!"
Clark and Faychak received their bid into the tournament after the Chattanooga beach volleyball team punched its ticket into the 2024 NCAA Beach Volleyball Tournament last season. This granted the Mocs one automatic bid to submit the pair of their choosing to compete in the fall national tournament. Coach Van Horn ultimately selected Clark and Faychak.
UTC's duo will open competition on Friday, November 15 with Pool Play, as the Mocs have ended up being put into Pool 9 as the tournament's No. 56 seed overall (seeding based off of TruVolley scores). Clark and Faychak kick off the weekend at 12 p.m. ET (11 a.m. CT) by taking on No. 9 seeded Alexa Fernandez/Reagan Hope of UCLA. The Mocs will then play the winner/loser of the pool's other two teams, No. 24 FAU or No. 41 FGCU, at 3 p.m. ET (2 p.m. CT) on Friday.
No matter what, Clark and Faychak will compete on all three days of competition, whether it be in the champions bracket or in one of the tournament's many consolation brackets. A full view of the tournament's schedule and scores from the weekend's matches can be found on VolleyLife, located HERE.
