Postgame Quotes
Deandra Schirmer, Head Coach
Opening thoughts after win over Lipscomb.
"One thing that we've known all year so far, is that we have a group of fighters. And we have a group of players with a winning spirit. In a game like this, when you match up well, and they make a run and hit some shots, when you have players who have played big games before, that's huge. As a coaching staff, I think we're still learning the group, and my biggest thing is that we'll teach skill and game plan, but I just need to know you're going to fight and fight together. All the hustle categories, we're winning. That's winning basketball. I'm proud of this group and how they stay together."
Â
On finding go-to players in crunch time.
"We're tying to find closers on this team. Someone who has a one-on-one advantage in a certain capacity. Different games, there will be different closers. We're only scratching the surface on this. We're starting to see the pieces come together. We're proud of the effort today in these closing situations."
Â
On the group coming together.
"From a coaching standpoint, you're only able to impact the game if the players buy-in. If our players don't buy-in, then whatever I say is useless. It's a credit to the team to see that vision and execute that out. We've hit some bumps, the gratitude I have for this group for staying the course, trusting the system and that it might look ugly at first. But we'll be able to put together a nice season if we stick together. We don't flinch. We're going to stand up to any challenge there is and that was shown today."
Â
On today's education day game which led to a raucous crowd.
"They kept warning me about it. The music selection made it hard not to dance. I loved everything about it. It was such a fun environment. We're sitting there and a day like today, we needed all the help, the loud crowd from those kids were such a help. I really enjoyed it. I came over to some of the students and told them to be very loud, but the atmosphere was there and we had a great time with it."

On extra playing time.
"We definitely hit some adversity this week and we're down some bodies. Coach told us upfront that we're going to need more minutes from a lot of us, and we worked and are working to get in that top-tier shape. It was nice to know that we were expecting to play more minutes coming in."
Â
On college journey.
"It's been a journey. I can't say it's been easy; it's been hard with a lot of bumps. One thing I've always been told is to stay the course, keeping putting the work in, doing the right things, and then it'll all come together. I think today was one of those days it came together. It's a testament to my teammates and coaches for pushing me every day. I can't do anything without them, it's all the credit to them."
