Soccer Season Ends in Loss to Top-Seed Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. --- The Chattanooga soccer team outshot top-seeded Western Carolina 11-9 but fell 2-0 in the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Championship on the Catamounts campus Sunday afternoon.

The Mocs fall to 7-9-3 on the year and bring the 2024 season to a close. Western Carolina improves to 15-2-3 overall and will take on No. 2 Samford in Cullowhee, N.C., next Sunday afternoon.

Naya Marcil and Milla Syska each scored for Western Carolina. Marcil, assisted by Alexis DeMarco, put the Cats on the board in the 17th minute, but the Mocs defense held over the next 65 minutes. UTC kept Western Carolina at bay until Syska, assisted by Isabella DeMarco, put the game a bit more out of reach.

Caroline Richvalsky, with a game-high four shots, had her second shot on goal in the final minutes. Carmya Mastrangelo and EG Dillard each had two shots in the match with one on goal apiece, but the Catamount defense held off Chattanooga's attack.

Chattanooga bids farewell to six seniors. Sylvie Keck, Ella Roth and Kelly Tuerff spent all four years with the Mocs. Brenna Swiger, Taylor Morris and Hannah Morton all joined Chattanooga this season as graduate transfers.

Richvalsky, Zoey Mize and Caroline Ekern all climbed into multiple Top 10 career categories for the Mocs this season and will climb further in 2025.
