Postgame Notes
Chattanooga 66, Shorter 49
Chattanooga, Tenn. | McKenzie Arena

Â
Head coach, Deandra Schirmer
On if she was nervous about today's game against Shorter.
"Yep, I was! One of the things we preach to our players is it's normal to be nervous, that means you care. Your heart pumps, your adrenaline is going, that means that what you're about to do means a lot to you. So going into this game this program means a lot to me. These fans, this community means a lot to me and coming out and representing Chattanooga in the right way meant a lot to me. One thing that helps with those nerves is trust and I had a lot of trust in my team tonight."
On Karsen Murphy's game tonight.
"There's no one more deserving of the success she's about to have and the awards she's about to have than
Karsen Murphy. I mean she's someone who is a self starter. She's somebody who's self made and I learned that when I first got here. She's somebody from a coaching standpoint that you want the team to do it for. We want to have a good year for players like Karsen and Sigrun who put in the work and who deserves it more than anything. I'm proud of her that she got a moment."
Caia Elisaldez, So., G
On the team fighting through a slow start to get their first win of the year.
"I think it's a great feeling right now to know that we stayed together. We've been working all preseason and all summer to play and win games together. I think for us to play the way that we did, we did start off rough and our nerves were there, but to see the way our team stood together; I couldn't be prouder of any of us right now."
On what conversations and advice she had for Izzy McPherson.
"Honestly in the heat of the moment I didn't even have time to talk to Izzy. Izzy went out there and Izzy knew what she needed to do and coach has been teaching us in what ways we can help the team and Izzy knew her role today. Everyone on our team knew their roles today. To see her go out there and play with as much confidence as she did… I can't even express how proud of her I am."
Izzy McPherson, Fr., G/F
On how it felt to make her first shot tonight.
"I was waiting the whole time for that first shot just for the nerves to quiet down and then I just started shooting."
On how eager she is to turn her attention to a tougher matchup against Tennessee Tech on Thursday.
"I think very eager. We have a lot of girls that can step up on any given night. Tonight it was me and a couple other freshmen but any night the girls could go off and have the game of their life."
