Postgame Quotes at Mercer

Postgame Notes
Chattanooga 61, Mercer 52
Macon, Ga. | Hawkins Arena
Saturday, February 10, 2024

Shawn Poppie, head coach
On Chattanooga's 61-52 win over Mercer on the road.
"Winning is hard, especially on the road. Hats off to Mercer, that felt like a SoCon Tournament game today. I'm proud of our kids toughness and grit. We put a focus on defense traveling this weekend and our kids sure took to it. Sigrun (Olafsdottir) was phenomenal on Summah Evans and our interior defense made it very tough for their high low game. When our offense took some time to get going, defensive stops and winning the rebound battle helped us leave with a big road win. Shoutout to Raven and Jada for holding it down offensively for us!"

Raven Thompson, So., F
On her strong first half and getting the rest of the team going.
"Some shots weren't falling for me at the beginning, but Coach Poppie told me to just stay aggressive and I did just that. I had to for my teammates."

On the team remaining unfazed when going into a hostile environment.
"We just worry about being us. Don't worry about the crowd, just be us and do what we do best."

Jada Guinn, Gr., G
On getting the team going in the second after early offensive struggles.
"It's just a testament to our coaches. First half they were throwing a lot of different stuff at us that we weren't really expecting. They were trapping me and Ray (Raven Thompson) kind of carried us through the first half. At halftime we just did a good job at adjusting, we spread them out and got them into high ball screen situations, and we were able to be successful from that."

On the team relying heavily on its defense in back-to-back games.
"We just talked about it, defense travels. Like you said, first half wasn't our best offensively so we needed to get stops. I'm thankful that we did and we got the dub."
