Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Mocs Down Tennessee Wesleyan 7-0

UTC wins all three matches that went to a third set.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team posted a 7-0 shutout against Tennessee Wesleyan at the UTC Tennis Courts today.  The Mocs moved to 5-6 overall on a chilly and windy afternoon, while the Bulldogs dropped to 5-3.

"It was a great win today," stated head coach Chad Camper. "That's a well-coached team and we had to work for every point."

The match was much closer than the final score, with three singles bouts needing a third frame to decide the outcome. UTC won the opening doubles point for the fifth time this season, starting off with Alice Hall and Rozalie Dohnalova's 6-1 win at No. 1 over Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne.

Caroline Gibbens and Madlena Orlova clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Mercedes Chasset and Julia Richardet at No. 2.  It was the third win in a row for Hall and Dohnalova, who moved to 7-2 in the spring in the top spot.

Orlova, Emma Peeler and Emma Pedretti each posted straight-sets wins in singles to help the Mocs clinch the team win.  However, the other three matches went to a third set.

With the team score still in doubt, Dohnalova and Alcala battled in a full third set at No. 1.  Dohnalova pulled that one out (6-2, 1-6, 6-2) to move to 8-3 in the spring.

The last two came after UTC took a 4-0 lead, so they were decided with a 10-point, super-tiebreaker.  Gibbens was next off with a (5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (4)) win over Mercedes Chasset at No. 3.

The last match was a marathon at No. 5 between Hall and Raquel Canadas. Canadas fought off an incredible eight match points in the third set before Hall finally put it away 15-13 (2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (15-13)).

Up next for the Mocs is the opening of Southern Conference action at UNCG on March 2.  The next home dual is Saturday, March 16 against Wofford at 10:00 a.m.
